Our demo projects
Demo projects allow us to demonstrate in a small way the major benefits that could come from BID projects.
We have initiated 3 demo projects
- a street clean up featuring steam cleaning and gum removal
- support for a programme of free,live music in South St every Saturday for 3 months
- support for a plastic free Dorchester via a range of 3 re-usable shopping bags
BID projects will be bigger, better and above all sustainably funded.

Why demo projects?
We felt the need to demonstrate that we were not just another talking shop.
We have steam cleaned and removed gum from 3 small areas in town - the pictures on other pages show this happening. Following on from this two businesses paid for an alleyway between their premises to be cleaned throughout. A BID project to carry out a regular clean could make the town much more attractive.
The second project was to support the Chamber of Commerce's Town Promotion Group in putting on regular live music performances in South St on Saturdays throughout June, July and August - a programme called Summer Saturday Live. This year was a pilot involving a lot of volunteer time. To make it viable in the long term a guaranteed level of funding is needed.
The third project involves supplying subsidised reusable bags to shoppers in the hope of freeing Dorchester from plastic shopping bags.
